Maurice Lacroix entered the world of everyday versatile sports watches with the Aikon automatic collection launched during Baselworld 2018. Following the success of the Aikon automatic, the brand then introduced a sportier and bolder taken on the Aikon in the form of the Venturer. And now, Maurice Lacroix has further diversified the Aikon collection with the addition of the new Aikon Venturer GMT.
GMT is one of the practical complications in the world of horology. Whether you are a traveler who is always on the move or are a part of a business model that requires you to interact with people spread across the globe, a watch with a GMT complication like this new Venturer GMT can make life easier for you. Presented with a black or white sunburst dial, the Venturer GMT can track time in multiple time zones using the vibrant red or orange GMT hand along with the 24-hour markings on the bezel. The rest of the dial looks quite familiar. Applied lume filled indices comprise the hour markers, a printed minute track runs on the outer periphery, a nicely bordered date window sits at the 3 o’clock position, and, finally, a well-proportioned handset takes care of the time-keeping responsibility. One nice attention to detail is that the hands and the indices have been rhodium plated on the black dial version whereas, the while dial variant gets blackened details to aid legibility.
One of the highlights of the Aikon automatic was its cohesive case and bracelet design, and the Venturer continues to impress in this regard. Machined from stainless steel, the case on this watch measures 43mm in diameter and has a thickness of 12mm, which is quite impressive for a watch that is water-resistant to 300 meters. The case features high-quality brushed lines which are complemented by beautifully polished chamfers that run along the sides of the case and lend the watch a premium feel. The bezel on top is still a uni-directional 60-click unit, which now features a 24-hour scale instead of the dive time markings found on the regular Venturer model. The right side of the case is flanked by a screw-down crown that has been protected by crown guards.
As far as the internals are concerned, the Venturer GMT is powered by the automatic ML165 caliber. This movement is based on the Sellita SW330-1 and operates at a frequency of 4 Hz to offer a power reserve of around 42 hours. The movement has been hidden behind a closed case back, which has been deeply engraved with a world map and 24 cities.
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer can be purchased on a rubber strap for CHF 2,350 and an integrated bracelet for CHF 2,490. There is also a possibility to buy the watch with both strap options for CHF 2,650.
