For the last couple of years, Mido has been the official partner of the Red Bull Cliff Diving sporting event. A thrilling yet dangerous sport, Cliff Diving requires athletes to leap, twist and somersault from heights of more than 30 meters at speeds of around 85km/h with no protection. To pay a tribute to the Red Bill Cliff Diving 2021 World Series competition, Mido has released the rugged and capable Limited-Edition Ocean Star Red Bull Cliff Diving watch.

The dial on the Ocean Star 200 Red Bull has been presented in a deep shade of blue. To make things visually exciting the dial has been vertically brushed and has been sprinkled with some bright orange accents. Placed on top of the dial are applied hour markers, which are a combination of rectangles and squares and bring a sense of depth to the dial. The markers along with the well-proportioned semi-skeletonized hour and minute hands and the triangle-tipped second’s hand, have been filled with luminous paint for enhanced low light visibility. The minute track comprises printed white hash marks, and finally, completing the dial is a day/date display at 3, the omission of which, in my opinion, would have resulted in a much cleaner dial. That said, the dial is highly legible, which is a must for a good dive watch.

The case has been machined from 316 L stainless steel and measures 42.5mm in diameter, which is a good size for a modern dive watch. It is finely brushed and features polished bevels along the sides to lend the watch a premium look. Water-resistance comes in at a healthy 200 meters and is taken care of by the threaded crown at 3, along with the closed case-back. The case-back has been nicely executed and has been stamped with the Red Bull Cliff Diving logo at the center, surrounded by relevant text that includes the limited-edition number and the depth rating of the watch.

Ticking inside this watch is Mido caliber 80. Based on the ETA C07.621, the caliber 80 comprises 25 jewels, operates at 3 Hz, and offers a healthy power reserve of around 80 hours.

The new Mido Ocean Star Red Bill Cliff Diving watch is limited to just 500 pieces and would come attached to a blue fabric strap with colorful orange contrast stitching. The watch will retail for USD 970.
