Well, this one caught us off guard. Tudor, the brand we usually associate with rugged dive watches, just surprised us with something totally unexpected: a moonphase watch. Yes you read that right, the latest Tudor 1926 Luna is the brand’s first ever moonphase timepiece.
The 39mm x 10.1mm case is a mix of polished steel and polished steel bezel, with a sapphire crystal up top, a solid caseback and a screw-down crown (complete with the Tudor logo, of course). Despite its refined looks, it’s water resistant to 100m, which is more than enough for a watch like this.
The dial is where things get interesting as your eyes will definitely dart back and forth between the brand name and the inaugural moonphase, sitting neatly in a classic 6 o’clock layout. Besides that oddity, the dial is available in black with gold accents, blue with silver, or champagne with blackened details, each one has a sunray finish. You’ll find a date window at 3 o’clock. The hands are leaf-shaped and unlumed, keeping the design elegant and old-school.
Instead of the usual in-house Kenissi engine, Tudor went with the Sellita based Calibre T607-9, built on the SW280-1. It’s an automatic movement running at 4Hz, with a 41h power reserve and accuracy tuned to -4/+6 seconds per day. It may not have a COSC certificate, but it’s still chronometer-grade, adjusted to Tudor’s standards. And in true Tudor fashion, you still get a 10 year service interval and 5 year warranty; pretty generous for a watch at this level.
The Luna comes on a 7-link stainless steel bracelet, mixing brushed and polished surfaces, closed with a folding clasp. The Tudor 1926 Luna is available now at Tudor boutiques and authorized retailers, priced at €2,630.
