Pre-Baselworld 2017: Longines Flagship Heritage 60th Anniversary 1957-2017 Watch

By Keith Bombrys

When it comes to the world of time telling and watches, Longines has become quite a name to be reckoned with for many years. One of the company’s most prominent collections is its Flagship Heritage collection. To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the company’s first Flagship collection, Longines is releasing its newest, latest, and possibly greatest Flagship piece in 2017. The instant classic timepiece is available in three limited edition varieties including steel, rose gold, and yellow gold. This 60-year commemorative piece is the perfect addition to any serious collector’s showcase.

This piece alludes a very strong sense of old fashioned watch design at its finest yet at the same time screams its modern and very in with the times style. This watch yields a 38.5 mm case and offers a 42-hour power reserve. The face is pearl white, with the numbers on the face delicately colored to match one of the three aforementioned variations. Only the 12, three, six, and nine numerals are marked on this piece to help offer the piece with real authentic, classic design and style, while the rest of the numbers are marked with indexes. Although the hands of the piece and the other markings on the face appear to be so classy and shiny, each of the numerals and the indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova to bring out a very fine shine and glow when darkness falls. A dial is strategically placed at 6 o’clock, which very accurately measures and counts seconds. The Longines Flagship markings on the face of the watch, just below 12 o’clock beautifully signify the authenticity of each piece. The strap of each watch is brown leather, hand stitched and very sturdy for those who wear their timepieces heavily.

The new edition of the Flagship Heritage is very fitting for its name. The design, style, and overall look of the piece gives the wearer a very nautical feeling when showing off the watch to family, friends, and even strangers. The illustrious shine of each of the three different finishes match perfectly with the hand stitching and the dark brown strap.

As has become a tradition over the past 60 years, the back of these timepieces is stamped and marked with a caravel and the flagship (which is the ship which the flag of the fleet’s commander in chief lets blow in the wind). This commemorative piece is water resistant up to 30 meters, or 100 feet. As would be the great marking of a commemorative piece such as this one, The Longines Flagship Heritage 60th Anniversary will be produced for a very limited time. In true commemorative fashion, there will be 1957 steel pieces produced, 60 yellow gold pieces produced, and 60 rose gold pieces produced. The steel version of this watch will start at 1730 Euros and the price of the yellow gold and the rose gold pieces has not yet been released. Don’t let this limited edition, limited time piece slip away from you; before you know it another 60 years may pass you by. For more info, please visit longines.com
