Omega has released another hit to add to their ever growing range of Speedmaster timepieces. Aptly named the “Grey Side of the Moon” the new Speedmaster is both elegant and classic yet feels fresh and modern.
While the new timepiece does have the same aesthetic feel as its brother, the “Dark Side of the Moon” released earlier this year, the “Grey Side of the Moon” features several elements that make it unique when comparing the two timepieces. The case, caseback, crown, bezel, pushers and buckle are all crafted from a white ceramic material that has been transformed into the beautiful grey finish you see before you. The case measures an overall 44.25mm in size and engraved on the caseback is the name of the new timepiece, “Grey Side of the Moon”.
The outstanding feature of the “Grey Side of the Moon” however is the Super-LumiNova that has been incorporated into the tachymeter on the brushed ceramic bezel, which is a first for Omega and a really nice touch for all of us crying out for this exact feature to be introduced. The numbers and marks on the bezel have been engraved then filled with the Super-LumiNova making it much easier to read the tachymeter scale regardless of lighting conditions.
The dial is also another beautiful example of the attention given by Omega with a sandblasted 950 platinum dial with 2 integrated platinum sub-dials that are implemented to distinguish the timepiece from other “Moonwatch” variants created by Omega. These 2 sub-dials are made possible and innovated by positioning both the 12-hour and 60-minute counters on the same sub-dial at 3 o’clock. A very cheeky and innovative design that offers a much cleaner presentation of the dial and let’s Omega add a date function at 6 o’clock. The black central chronograph seconds hand features a red tip for clearer legibility and is coated with a white Super-LumiNova, as are the hours, minutes, indexes and 2 dots either side of 12 o’clock.
The movement as always is the impressive Omega Co-Axial Calibre 9300 automatic movement equipped with an Si14 silicon balance spring, an iconic movement in the world of horology and features all the ruggedness you would expect from such an iconic movement.
A wonderful new addition to the Omega range and a real treat on the eyes with the use of platinum and grey really outlining its prestigious heritage as THE Moon watch for watch aficionado’s everywhere. For more info, please visit omegawatches.com
