Ulysse Nardin has released a new perpetual calendar GMT that will only be available from their own mono-brand boutiques around the world. This model stands out from other models in their range with it’s blue dial which will only be offered on this model. The perpetual calendar GMT in terms of practical day to day wear is perfect for showing the wearer time, day, date, month and year at a glance and will never need changing by yourself even on February 29th, so there’s very sophisticated engineering going on here.
The case is platinum which look perfect against the blue ripple patterned dial. The diameter is 43mm so it’s a little on the big side to be classed as a dress watch but neither does it have a sporty feel to it. It’s just a good looking piece and it’s as simple as that. The outer edge of the dial shows the GMT function with silver and blue used to denote day/night by 24 hour numerals with pushers at 8 O’Clock & 4 O’Clock to move the home time forward or back. The dial is nicely laid out with a large date window at 1 O’Clock, the day & month windows are either side of the main central hands with the year at 6 O’Clock. Personally I would have preferred to see the large date window at 12 O’Clock to give the dial a nice symmetrical look. The sub-seconds dial is at 9 O’Clock and the hands are skeletonised with nice bright lume filled ends. Finishing off the dial are the applied curved baton indices with each index having luminous dot accents.
The piece has a fully in-house automatic self-winding movement. The UN-32 movement claims the title for the most advanced perpetual calendar in history with it’s simple yet superb solution, the UN-32 allows the wearer to not only set the date forward like conventionally but also backwards via the crown.
A dark blue leather strap with folding platinum clasp finishes of this piece perfectly.
Limited to 250 pieces worldwide and only available in their boutiques.
Conclusion
