Recently we showed you Urwerk’s first watch designed for ladies, the UR-106 Black Lotus with many black diamonds inserted into the bezel, now Urwerk have released their offering for the Only Watch auction taking place in Geneva in November to raise funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Basically, this unique one of a kind piece is a non-diamond version of the Black lotus which by removing the diamonds it changes the aesthetics of the piece totally from being a feminine piece to a masculine piece.
With the diamonds removed this clearly shows off pure Urwerk styling. The titanium and stainless steel case is coated with deep black PVD retaining its dark and moody looks with the yellow coating on the indexes very much in keeping with previous Urwerk Black editions. The case size is the same as the Black Lotus which means 35mm wide and 49mm long, given the size which is smaller than normal Urwerk standards (44mm wide and 54mm long) it is very masculine but with the smaller size I can see it appealing to both genders. It’s just a shame this is a one off as I personally think this size would be a great addition to their collection.
Case size aside this is pure Urwerk with their centrally mounted satellite revolving hour complication displaying hours with rotating parts, while the current hour satellite points out the minutes on an arched 60 minutes track at the bottom of the dial. Just above the minute track at 6 O’clock an aperture reveals a moon phase indication made of a lapis lazuli disc with the moon that is, if you look very closely, actually metal deposited in a maze like motif and really seems to jump from the dark background of the dial.
Like the Black Lotus this piece houses the Urwerk in-house made Urwerk caliber UR 6.01 automatic movement with self-winding.
Finishing off the piece is a black alligator leather strap with yellow stitching that continues the black and yellow colour scheme.
Conclusion
I know this piece is for the Only Watch auctions and is a total one-off for a great cause but I can’t help but wonder if Urwerk by creating this one-off have just created the ultimate Urwerk watch with its smaller case size making it wearable for either sex? Given that I thought we would never see a ladies Urwerk we will just have to wait and see if a variation of this will appear in their collection, only time will tell.
