Dive and Ceramic watches are in demand in today’s watch market. Omega has capitalized on this market and will soon release their Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Deep Black Collection to the public. This watch offers many additional features to the similar Omega’s Seamaster Planet Ocean watch family released in early 2016. The “Deep Black” variation is a new and improved update from the watch family’s initial take on how the ocean should be explored chronographically.
This watch itself and the straps are completely black in color to match the deep black theme set on the piece, but offers four choices in colors that accent the timepiece. The piece can be ordered with an all black accent, a blue accent, a red accent, and a gold accent. The timepiece is mostly made of ceramic, which includes the case, bezel, and the dial, with a matte finish on the case and the dials. The gold accent variation offers an actual 18k Sedna gold, which is used to cover some of the bezel, the outside of the case, the dials, parts of the faceplate, and the crown of the piece. Whatever accenting color the buyer chooses, that color is visible as boarders around the face of the watch, the color of the seconds hand, the color of some of the writing on the faceplate of the watch, and in two thin pinstripes that boarder the band of the piece. The rest of the watch is a very deep black color, aside from the numbers, watch hands, and the various markings on the face of the watch.
Melted metal, called Liquidmetal, is used to make and apply the bezel, crown, the various writing on the watch, and the logo to the piece. This ensures that the face and various pieces of the watch do not quickly fade or wear out over time. Also, by using this method, the metal on the watch will not easily scratch or be damaged easily over time or from continuous use. The details and refined attributes put into the overall value of the Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Deep Black Watch are astonishing. The overall look and quality of the watch shows that Omega is serious about the quality of their watches, and here is no exception. A “Naiad Lock” is a great example of Omega’s quality in this piece, ensuring that the ceramic casebacks can easily screw back into the case and keep the text perfectly level on the face on the watch. This monograph features an exhibition caseback, an Omega caliber 8906 Master Chronometer, and has a power reserve of up to 60 hours. The Master Chronometer is an automatic co-axial movement that operates at 3.5Hz. The chronograph is virtually “non-magnetic,” as non-metallic parts were used to make the piece. The date, time, and a second-time zone through the 24-hour GMT hand are also great features of the GMT Deep Black. The case is 45.5 mm wide, which is very useful for the various pressure and temperature changes found through water pressures depths. The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Deep Black Watch is water resistant up to 600 meters for those divers who really like to let loose and explore the depths of the sea. This is the first ceramic watch that is water resistant at such depths.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Deep Black, ceramic varieties, will be priced at 10,400 Swiss francs, and the 18k Sedna variety will be priced at 13,400 Swiss francs.
