Nomos has something new up its sleeve and we’re talking about three watch variants here in the line of Neomatik watches. I like Nomos for its kindhearted modernist approach or simply a touch of novelty on otherwise classic designs not that I have something against purely classic watches. There are times when a modernist watch does more than the uber classic luxurious timepiece that you have and I like Nomos when it comes to this. This German watch manufacturer has also impressed me for a long time now and with the new blue dial on the Nomos Neomatik line, I can’t say just how refreshingly impressed I am.
For a start, the Neomatik line of watches with Nacht Blau or midnight blue dials include the Tangente Neomatik Nachtblau, the Metro Neomatik Nachtblau, and the Minimatik Nachtblau. As usual, the differences are cosmetic but it’s always good to have a choice, so a plus should go to Nomos here. The midnight blue dial on all variants is awesome in my opinion although black dials seem to be a bit more discreet but something’s gotta give. As for Nomos, they’re just following the logic of popularity since nowadays, blue is the new black, not that I’m complaining.
Ok so let’s go to the cases which apparently are of different sizes, whew I almost got confused here considering that all variants use the same movement, really beats me. Anyhow, the Nomos Tangente Neomatik Nachtblau sports a 35mm x 6.9mm stainless steel case, half a mm larger than the 35.5mm x 8.9mm stainless steel case of the Nomos Minimatik Nachtblau while the Nomos Metro Neomatik Nachtblau is also 35mm x 8.1mm. They also differ in lug designs but to be honest, most of the changes are barely noticeable except of course on the dial essentials particularly the indices for which I’m going to talk about next.
The dial is quite exciting since the midnight blue dial really sports superb readability even at low light thanks to its beautiful lines. The dial of the Nomos Tangente Neomatik Nachtblau sports green minute markers and traditional Arabic numerals for the hours. This looks great and quite simple. On the other hand, the Nomos Metro Neomatik Nachtblau sports a vintage design using dots for the hours combined with green minute markers. If you like classics, this is it. Now if you can’t decide between the above variants, the Nomos Minimatik Nachtblau combines all of the elements of the 3 designs above. Surprisingly, the third variant looks great although I would prefer seconds hand on the seconds sub-dial.
Powering the new Neomatik line of watches with Nacht Blau is powerful yet very slim 3.2mm in-house DUW 3001 movement. It sports very appealing minimalist design giving the Neomatik line of watches its superb ergonomics for daily wear. Yeah for a modernist watch, the combination of classic and contemporary elements on the Neomatik Nacht Blau or midnight blue watches simply feels better on both the skin and the eyes.
At $3,580 (Nomos Tangente Neomatik Nachtblau) $3,960 (Nomos Metro Neomatik Nachtblau), and $3,800 (Nomos Minimatik Nachtblau), the price is just right for these modern watches plus you get leather straps, in-house movement, and most of all a beautiful and high-quality construction.
