Omega has recently announced the addition of a new member to its Constellation family. Featuring a silk-embossed blue dial, a larger 39mm Sedna gold case, and driven by a METAS certified movement this new watch is a more masculine and modern version of an all-time classic, the constellation Manhattan.
Launched back in 1982, the Constellation Manhattan was a successor to the famous Pie Pan era and managed to grab people’s attention through its distinctive bold design. The defining features included a unique case with integrated lugs, a specially designed bracelet, a bezel with deeply engraved Roman numerals and claws at 3 and 9. Nothing much has changed between then and now, and the constellation has been an integral part of the Omega family since its inception. Interestingly, the current constellation line (Globemaster aside) features more watches for women than men, and that is where this new watch comes into the picture.
Crafted from Sedna gold, the case on this watch measures a nice 39mm in diameter, which should be able to please men with both small and large wrists. The integrated lug design would further ensure that the watch does not overhang and sits comfortably on the wrist. The case has been finely brushed for the most part, but at the same time, there are some nice polished bits as well such as the crown, the claws on the bezel, and the strap links. And even though this is more of a dress watch, there is decent water resistance of 50 meters on offer.
Providing a great contrast to the warm gold case is a beautiful blue dial that is unlike anything else out there. It has a nice pattern embossed all over it that gives the dial a lot of personality and makes it look quite dynamic. Placed on top of the dial are applied faceted markers that are also made of Sedna gold and printed alongside in white is minute/seconds track. At 12 is an applied Omega logo and Constellation branding, and at 6 is a nice trapezoidal date window and the applied constellation logo. Time can be read easily using the line filled dauphine style hands.
Flipping the watch over you get an unobstructed view of Omega’s caliber 8800 that powers this watch. This modern automatic movement is beautifully finished and packed to the gills. The movement operates at an unusual frequency of 25,200 VPH, offers a power reserve of around 55 hours and is antimagnetic to 15000 Gauss. Akin to the case the balance bridge and the rotor have also been presented in Sedna gold.
The introduction of the new 39mm Omega constellation is a great move by the brand as it would certainly help attract more people to the collection and further increase its popularity. The watch would come attached to a blue alligator leather strap and would retail for USD 18,600.
