The Swatch group has recently been raising the heat in the landscape of affordable horology by offering technically advanced products unheard of in this category. The latest effort from the Giant watch conglomerate in this regard comes in the form of the Mido Mutlifort Chronometer 1 watch. Driven by a COSC certified automatic movement, that is equipped with silicon technology, and offering many other subtle refinements, these new watches are aimed at offering excellence in timekeeping.
Mido’s current Multifort Chronometer collection comprises good-looking everyday watches that offer a great blend of sporty and elegant aesthetics, and the new Multifort Chronometer 1 take things a step further offering small, but noteworthy improvements. To begin with, the face of the watch still looks familiar and features broad vertical stripes reminiscent of côtes de genève finishing found on the movement, giving the watch a ton of personality and character. The hour markers are still applied and faceted but have now been satin-finished to emit a more refined look. The printed minute track on the outer flange now has numerals at intervals of five to enable easy and precise display of time. And just like before there is a nicely executed day/date window at 3.
Moving onto the case, you are still looking at a 42mm round shape with downward curving lugs for better wrist comfort. Primarily crafted from stainless steel, the case is being offered in several different finishes that changes the overall look and feel of the watch. A sapphire crystal on the front protects the dial and there is also a sapphire window on the back to view the beautifully decorated Mido Caliber 80.
A self-winding movement, the Mido Caliber 80 is based on the ETA C07.821 movement. It operates at a frequency of 3 Hz and as the name suggests offers a power reserve of around 80 hours when fully wound. The movement has also been COSC certified which means that it would keep accurate time with a maximum deviation of -4 or +6 seconds a day. Furthermore, this new version of the Caliber 80 also features extensive use of silicon components that helps in providing better resistance to magnetic fields.
Mido’s Multifort Chronometer 1 watch certainly look like a winner. They are good to look at and will keep accurate track of time, there is a wide variety on offer to suit different tastes, and more than anything else, these watches are priced reasonably. The watch is available in Blue, Silver and Black dials with prices ranging between CHF 1,150 (Steel case with leather strap) and CHF 1,350 (Rose gold PVD coated case and bracelet).
