The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Chronograph is a smart-looking piece. Featuring sophisticated styling, an automatic-winding movement with column wheel and a fine assortment of straps and bracelets. There’s a lot to like about this new watch. A classically-restrained Swiss wristwatch, the Manero Flyback Chronograph features a blue dial which is the colour in season at the moment.
The case has been elegantly styled with lugs that seem to flow from the case in an almost teardrop shape. The watch comes with either a blue textile strap or a stainless steel bracelet, but I reckon a good aftermarket leather strap might take the appearance to the next level. We see on the dial that restraint has been shown when designing the watch. While it communicates a lot of information thanks to the tachymeter scale on the inner flange, it still manages to be spaced out and easy to read. The hands are quite similar to dauphin hands in their shape, but they’ve been skeletonised to add more airiness to the dial. Even the hands for the chronograph subdials have had a portion cut away. There’s also a date window at the bottom of the dial where it balances the dial nicely, even if the back of the date is white rather than blue.
Inside the watch is the calibre CFB 1970 which is based on the ETA calibre 7750. This isn’t the standard workhorse movement that you’d find in some “homage” watch. Carl F. Bucherer’s staff have been all over this one, improving the chronograph mechanism by adding a column-wheel control system and a flyback function too. That means this watch can be reset while the chronograph is still running, but thanks to that base movement, the watch still comes with a 42-hour power reserve.
Sitting pretty at 43mm by 14.45mm, the Manero Chronograph Flyback is a classy and sophisticated watch, and it will cost you $8700.
