Indie watch manufacturer Cyrus has added a new family member to its Klepcys collection. The Klepcys GMT Retrograde features a bold and sporty 42mm case and is powered by a new in-house automatic movement that offers the ability to track a second time-zone through a user-friendly GMT Retrograde functionality.
The Klepcys GMT Retrograde brings a lot of refreshing elements to the table and one of them is the dial. Featuring a multi-layer design, the dial offers a heady mix of dimensionality, transparency, and legibility. The dial begins with a sapphire disc that houses the luminous Arabic numerals and allows the wearer to enjoy a clear view of the mechanical underpinnings of this timepiece. Sitting atop the Sapphire base is an almost circular GMT Retrograde display that starts at the 7 O’clock position and ends at the 8 o’clock position. The base of the chapter ring has been presented in blue whereas the GMT markings have been rendered in white to offer maximum contrast and the local time can be read using the blue GMT hand that also features luminous paint for low-light visibility.
However, the real fun with this piece lies in witnessing the GMT hand jump from the 24-hour mark at 8 O’clock back to the 24-hour marking at the 7 O’clock position to reset itself, unlike a traditional GMT hand that completes an entire circle to come back to its starting position. At the 6 o’clock position is a subsidiary second’s dial that sits slightly above the GMT ring adding further depth. The second’s hand has once again been painted blue and features an intriguing tri-blade design reminiscent of the brand’s logo. The hour and minutes hands are semi-skeletonized and have also been filled with luminous paint.
As mentioned above the sapphire dial reveals the highly open-worked front of the new in-house CYR708 calibre. An automatic movement the CYR708 beats at 4 Hz and offers an autonomy of around 55 hours. The upper plate of the movement has been carved out to create a “sequelette” effect enabling the wearer to appreciate the golden wheels and gears in motion. Like the front, the movement has also been decorated on the back and features anthracite grey NAC bridges and a skeletonized rotor that recalls the same design as seen on the front.
The case is made from lightweight grade 5 titanium. It measures 42mm in diameter and has a thickness of 13.9mm, and given its cushion style shape it should be able to sit comfortably on a wide variety of wrists. The case features the brand’s signature twin crown mechanism. The case is water-resistant to a healthy 100 meters.
The new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde would come mated to a black rubber strap and there would be 50 pieces each of three different variations (Natural Polished titanium, two-tone with a black DLC titanium bezel, and all-black DLC titanium) available for purchase starting from EUR 18,100.
