Resurrecting designs from the past is one of the hottest horological trends right now and brands with a rich history are making the most of it. Last month, we saw Zenith re-issue the gorgeous A-385, and now Tissot has attempted to re-create the magic of the 70s. Featuring an integrated case and bracelet, powered by a quartz movement, the Tissot PRX is a compelling modern reinterpretation of a Tissot reference from 1978.
What immediately grabs attention on the PRX is its bold and distinctive case and bracelet combination that looks identical to the one found on its vintage inspiration. Starting from a domed bezel on the top, followed by a mid-case with rounded sides and angular integrated lugs, finally culminating into a closed case-back, the case looks sharp and emits a Gentaesque vibe. Machined from stainless steel, the 40mm case exhibits impressive finishing with finely brushed surfaces dominating throughout, complemented by the polished bezel and beautifully polished bevels running across the sides of the case. The bracelet gives the watch a cohesive look and flows seamlessly from the lugs to the butterfly style clasp. In continuation to the top of the mid-case, the bracelet also features striking vertical brushing. It also tapers dramatically from top to bottom, enhancing the vintage appeal of the watch. And, in true sports watch style, the case is water-resistant to a healthy 100 meters.
The dial on the PRX, like the case, bears a close resemblance to its vintage reference and looks clean, refined, and highly legible. Offered in blue and black, and silver, the dial features slender applied lume coated indices for hours, a printed minutes track, and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The silver variation comes with a nice vertical brushing reminiscent of linen dials from the past, whereas the remaining variations come with an elegant sunburst finish. The hands like the indices have a baton-style design, and the hour and minute hands have been coated with luminous paint to improve low light visibility.
Ticking inside this watch is an ETA F06.115 quartz movement that comprises 3 jewels. The movement comes with an end of life indicator and would keep highly accurate time, especially compared to its mechanical counterparts.
The new Tissot PRX would retail for USD 375.
