Chopard L.U.C Lunar One Perpetual Watch

A new charming offering from the house of Chopard.

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

After releasing the stunning perpetual Twin watches last year, L.U.C, Chopard’s high horology division has just dropped a new variation of the charming Lunar One. Limited to just 25 pieces, this watch features a gorgeous deep blue sunburst dial packed inside a warm and elegant rose gold case.

L.U.C is regarded as Chopard’s high horology division and watches like the Lunar One are a testimony to its superior craftsmanship.  A perpetual calendar is one of the more difficult complications to execute both technically and aesthetically, and the Lunar One handles it all with elan. Starting with the dial, what we have here is a deep blue dial which has been given a sunburst finish to offer an extra dose of elegance and added light play.  The perpetual calendar setup has been presented through a tri-register set-up that keeps the dial relatively clean and legible. At the 3 o’clock position is a sub-register that displays the months on the outside and the leap year on the inside. At 6 is a large running seconds sub-dial that also houses the romantic moonphase indicator. The sub dial at 9 displays the day of the week and the day/night information. And finally, at 12 is big date display. Surrounding the sub-dials are classic, applied rose gold Roman numerals, followed by a rail-road style minute track on the outer periphery.

The case on this watch has been machined from 18k rose gold and measures a relatively large 43mm in diameter. And while the case is quite wide for a dressy piece like this, a thickness of just 11.2mm combined with the downward curving lugs would ensure that the watch sits comfortably on the wrist. The case been beautifully polished for the most watch and offers a water resistance of 50 meters.

Turning the watch over you get a great view of the beautiful and highly capable mechanical underpinnings of this watch. The L.U.C 96.13-L is a micro-rotor equipped automatic movement that has been created fully in-house. The movement operates at 4 Hz and offers an autonomy of around 65 hours. It is also a COSC chronometer and has been given the Geneva seal that stands for some of the highest quality standards in watchmaking. The movement exhibits top notch finishing that includes Geneva striping on the bridges, circular graining on the main plate and 22k oscillating weight.

The new L.U.C Chopard Lunar One blue is limited to 25 pieces and is accompanied by a brown nubuck leather strap. The watch will retail for CHF 60,800.
