TAG Heuer has already given us one green watch recently in the form of the Monaco Green Dial limited edition piece. Now, the brand returns to this trending dial colour with a different watch, the classic Carrera. The TAG Heuer Carrera Green Special Edition is a more subtly coloured piece than the Monaco, but it’s still easy to tell apart from the usual array of blacks, silvers and blues clogging up the marketplace.
In this watch, we see a classic design, a chronograph dress watch with a tri-compax layout, only the chronograph functions and the time on this watch. Happily, TAG Heuer has excluded the date from the Carrera Green Special Edition. It doesn’t need it.
TAG Heuer says it’s drawn on its motor racing heritage for the green colour of the dial, and it’s easy to see that the Carrera here isn’t far off the iconic British Racing Green colour that’s been adorning things from watch dials and other accessories (and cars, I suppose) since the days of WO Bentley.
The watch features a 39mm stainless steel case presented on a black alligator leather strap. The case appears to be all-polished, great for a dressy piece but could be a little problematic for everyday wear thanks to scratches. Having said that, we wouldn’t worry too much about it as these are meant to be worn and enjoyed.
Inside the case is the calibre Heuer 02, an in-house made movement by TAG Heuer with a column-wheel chronograph, 4Hz beat rate and a power reserve of 80-hours. The finishing on the calibre appears to be very neat. Having seen other TAG Heuer calibres in the metal, I can attest that a viewer will have reason to be pleased by this one. TAG Heuer has also added some teal colouration to the rotor and the column wheel.
TAG Heuer will only be making 500 of these, and they’re only available to buy directly from the brand, either from its branded boutiques or its E-Commerce system through its website. The price for a Carrera Green Special Edition sits at $6,650.
