When it comes down to affordable dive watches, Seiko is a brand that is hard to beat. That said, today, we have for you another dive watch from Japan, which is ready to give those Seiko divers a run for their money. So, without further ado, here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the new Citizen Promaster Mechanical Diver 200 meters. This watch is fully clad in titanium, features a textured dial, and is powered by the new anti-magnetic calibre 9051.
Right off the bat, the Promaster Mechanical Diver 200m makes a solid visual impact through its bold and rugged case design. Crafted from titanium, the case measures 46mm in diameter, making this a watch more suitable for people with large wrists. It features an angular geometry and has been finely brushed throughout. Furthermore, the case has been treated with Duratect, Citizen’s proprietary surface hardening technology, making it lighter and more resistant to scratches. Sitting on top of the case is a grippy uni-directional dive time bezel that features deeply stamped dive time markings, six exposed screws, and a deeply engraved pyramid pattern. At the 3 o’clock position is a knurled screw-down crown, which ensures that the watch remains water-resistant to a healthy 200 meters.
The dial, like the case, continues to be a strictly utilitarian affair with a strong focus on legibility. Presented in black, the base of the dial once again features a pyramid pattern like the one found on the bezel, making the overall design of the watch look cohesive. Placed on top are applied lume filled hour makers, which comprise rectangles at 3, 6 and 9, a V-shaped marker at 12, and semi-circles. Like the markers, the handset is also filled with luminous paint to ensure great low-light visibility. To add some vibrancy to the dial, Citizen has also thrown in some nice splashes of orange, visible on the minute hand, the lollipop style seconds hand, and the 12 O’clock marker. To make it easy to read the time a white minute track has been printed on the outer flange, and you also get a date window that has been neatly integrated within the marker at 3.
Powering this watch is the automatic calibre 9051. This movement is based on the workhorse Miyota calibre 9015 and comes with a few noteworthy upgrades. It still operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours. However, this movement provides resistance from magnetic fields up to 16,000 A/m. It is also more accurate than the 9015 showing a daily deviation between -10 and +20 seconds as opposed to -10/+30 seconds daily deviation rate of the 9015.
The new Citizen Promaster Mechanical 200m is available to purchase on a black polyurethane strap for EUR 695 or a titanium bracelet for EUR 795.
