A short while back, TAG Heuer released a new Special Edition variation of the modern current generation Monaco featuring a striking gradient green dial. Now, the brand has taken the wraps off the new Monaco Titan, another special edition watch that features a Titanium construction, comes equipped with a conservative silver sunburst dial, and is powered by the trustworthy calibre 11.
One of the most distinctive design attributes of the TAG Heuer Monaco has always been its square-shaped case. Measuring 39mm on each side with short chunky lugs and featuring an uncommon pusher and crown arrangement, the case profile on a TAG Heuer Monaco cannot be mistaken for anything else. And while most Monaco watches to date have made use of Stainless steel in their construction, the case on the Monaco Titan has been crafted from grade 2 Titanium. The use of Titanium means that this watch would be much lighter in weight compared to its steel siblings and hence would be more comfortable on the wrist. In terms of finishing, the entire case has been sandblasted lending the watch a more restrained look. The case is water-resistant to a healthy 100 meters, making this a pool worthy wristwatch.
To complement the dull grey tone of the case, TAG Heuer has given the Monaco Titan a silver dial with a nice sunburst finish for some added elegance. To provide a nice contrast to the silver background, the two recessed square sub-dials at 3 and 9 for tracking the running seconds and the chronograph minutes have been presented in black.
Surrounding the sub-dials is a printed black circular minute/chronograph seconds track with small luminous pips for enhanced low-light visibility. And finally, on the outside of the minute track are the applied horizontal polished hour markings, another signature design detail of Monaco. To add some vibrancy to the dial Tag has provided some nice splashes of red that are visible on the 12 o’clock marker and the chronograph second’s hand.
Visible through the sapphire case back on this watch is its mechanical heart, the calibre 11, one of the first automatic chronograph movements to be ever made. This is a modular movement that uses the Sellita SW300 as its base and has a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module on top. The movement operates at 28,800 bph and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours when fully wound. There is some decent decoration on display which includes perlage, blues screws, and a skeletonized rotor.
The new TAG Heuer Monaco Titan comes attached to a black alligator strap and the retail price is EUR 7,450.
