On Saturday, Christie’s held a very special auction called OnlyWatch, a charity auction where the proceeds go to research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, one of the most common and most severe forms of Muscular Dystrophy. This year’s edition had the fewest watches that sold for less than their expected price, at least for as long as I’ve been writing for WristReview. As expected, Patek Philippe’s submission garnered the highest price overall, but it certainly wasn’t a record this time around. The priciest pieces of the auction were Patek Philippe’s Complicated desk clock at CHF9.5m, F.P.Journe’s collaboration with Francis Ford Coppola at CHF4.5m, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “Jumbo” at CHF3.1m, Richard Mille’s prototype at CHF2.1m and DeBethune’s collaboration with Kari Voutilainen at CHF1.3m, these were the only watches to reach the seven-digit section. The total amount generated by the auction was CHF29,740,000, a great number for sure, although Patek Philippe’s Grandmaster Chime brought in nearly CHF2m more by itself in 2019.
