Revival watches are currently en-vogue, we all here at WristReview thought that green dials would replace blue dials as the ‘in thing’, but it seems that “re-interpreting” historical models is the trend of the moment. Next up to have released a watch after digging through the boxes in the attic is Certina, which is releasing the DS-2 Powermatic 80.
The tonneau (barrel) case shape is the most obvious part of the watch’s retro-inspired looks. Watches from the 60s and 70s very often have these cases, it was the main style at the time, although Rolex notably didn’t really follow this trend. The watches of these days were relatively small, although this piece perhaps isn’t on the same microscopic levels, it comes in at 40mm x 38mm and is made of stainless steel.
Certina kept the dials of the watches relatively clean with stick hands and markers that have lume applied. All watches come with a date window, although the date backdrop is white rather than colour matched. Three watches have a sunray finish, and you have a choice of silver, blue or black. There’s also another black version which has a lacquered finish rather than a sunray one.
All models come with the Powermatic 80 ETA80.611 calibre. We’ve seen this in a few different watches from the Swatch Group, but just as a rundown of the specs again, it has a power reserve of 80-hours with a 4Hz beat rate. The watches display the Powermatic 80 calibre through a sapphire caseback and remind you of it with cursive text on the dial.
They all come with either a fabric strap which will cost you CHF860 or a mesh bracelet for CHF925.
