This year has recently seen the 83rd edition of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud. Never heard of it? Me neither until I started writing this, but according to a Geneva travel tourism page thing, it’s the most important inland lake regatta in the world. Over 500 boats took on the challenge of racing from one end of Lake Geneva to the other and back, a race of 123km. Hublot is the official partner of the event, and they’ve released a special edition to mark it.
The Classic Fusion, in most guises, isn’t the most exciting watch to look at, not just because it’s got a fairly standardised design, but there aren’t many frills on it. It’s still a great watch, but it sometimes looks like it needs a little pizazz. Luckily, this two-tone black and blue edition is just what the Classic Fusion needed.
The case is made of black ceramic and measures 45mm x 13mm, which is just the right size for all our readers based on their comments (that was sarcasm, by the way). It features classic Hublot tropes such as the screws (not bolts) in the bezel. The dial is clean with applied stick markers and a twin subregister layout with the date at 6 O’clock. The case is water resistant to 50m.
Inside it is the calibre HUB1143 which is an ETA-based movement with a Dubois Depraz chronograph module added. It’s automatically wound with a 42-hour power reserve and a 4Hz beat rate. The movement is usually on display in the Classic Fusion range, and a little bit of it is here, although the majority of the sapphire crystal caseback has been covered. The graphic on the back of the watch depicts the logo of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud and has an outline of Lake Geneva cutout too.
