The Girard-Perregaux Laureato is one of the first luxury steel sports watches, introduced in 1975 and named after the Italian movie “Il Laureato,” or The Graduate. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato is a watch for watch connoisseurs, rather than a watch aimed for every wrist under the sun. Despite this, its octagonal bezel gives it a better recognition value than any other timepiece. Now Girard-Perregaux has just introduced the new Laureato 42mm 18k pink gold case model with an exquisite black onyx dial.
The 42mm x 10.68mm case is crafted from 18k rose gold case and so is the bracelet. Furthermore, the finishing on the case and the bracelet is varied with a combination of brightly polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The shape of the case is the hallmark of 70s sports watch design, made famous by Royal Oak and dates back to the original Girard-Perregaux Laureato from 1975. An angular tonneau-shaped case serves as the base, with a thin circular ring lying on top, the octagonal bezel then sits on the two geometric forms. A signed winding crown can be observed at 3 o’clock position on this setup.
Black onyx and pink gold are a stunning combination; along with the element of contrasting geometrical shapes which is evident in the design of Laureato. The semi-precious stone is handcrafted in a procedure in which thin fragments of the stone are carved and polished by hand in a complex procedure requiring 15 separate procedures to give them a shiny mirror-like sheen. Sapphire crystal is present on both sides, the front of which is scratch resistant as well, it helps the new Laureato achieve 50 meters of water resistance. Hosted by the dial are the hand-applied polished pink-gold hour markers, Girard-Perregaux logo at 12 o’clock in matching pink gold, gold plated baton hands and date window at 3 o’clock.
Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm is powered by the self-winding GP01800 movement, an in-house automatic movement operating at 28,800vph and offering 54 hours of power reserve. This time and date movement’s gold oscillating weight is decorated with Côtes de Genève, as well as bridges and rotor. This non-limited edition watch, offered on an integrated pink gold bracelet or a black alligator strap with a triple folding clasp, will be available in September 2022 priced at USD 54,300.
