Mido’s Ocean Star Collection has expanded with the addition of the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer. While the collection previously featured two limited edition models, the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 and the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 Turquoise, this new model is part of the permanent collection and includes a GMT complication. Unlike the limited editions, the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer is available to all watch enthusiasts.
The watch has a 40.5mm fully polished stainless steel case, making it comfortable to wear for most people. The watch features a screw-down crown, a solid steel screwed caseback, and a box-shaped sapphire crystal. The bidirectional bezel with blue/black aluminum ring and silver markings displays cities from all over the world, enabling wearers to check the time difference in all 24 major cities worldwide. The bezel has the brand’s starfish in relief.
The watch’s dial is visually appealing and complex, with a GMT function that requires a 24-hour hand and scale. The dial retains the concentric scales to mark decompression times at different depths. The watch has a classic 60-minute scale and luminous pearl at 12 o’clock. Rectangular applied and luminous markers and a minute scale are also present on the dial. The date window is situated at 3 o’clock, making it a traveler’s essential. Although the dial may not be the easiest to read, its complexity complements the bezel’s intricacy.
The Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer is powered by the Powermatic 80 movement (ETA C07.66), the same movement as the Ocean Star GMT, with an added GMT function. The watch runs at 3Hz (21,600vph) and has an extended power reserve of 80 hours. The watch has an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring, and its traveler GMT function adjusts the local time hand by one-hour increments.
The watch is available in two versions, blue and black. The blue model has a blue bezel, blue dial background, blue rubber strap, and decompression table in yellow, green, pink, and blue. The other model has a black bezel, black dial base, black rubber strap, and a decompression table in graduated colors from yellow to orange. The watch comes with a Milanese stainless steel bracelet with a sliding clasp and a color-matched rubber strap. Quick-release spring bars make it easy to swap between the strap and the bracelet.
The Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer is part of the permanent collection and will be available from March 15th, 2023, with a suggested retail price of EUR 1,360/USD 1,310.
