Maurice Lacroix is a popular watchmaker who makes great-looking watches and then sells them at affordable prices. We’re regularly impressed by their attention to detail and the incorporation of some truly interesting details on their watches. Today, after ten years on the market, Maurice Lacroix is refreshing the Pontos S diver.
This second-generation diving watch features some vintage-inspired looks, but Maurice Lacroix stresses that this is most definitely a brand-new watch. It comes with a 42mm case made of stainless steel or, for the first time, bronze. The crown at 2 O’clock controls the inner rotating diving bezel. All watches come with a coloured rubber strap with a buckle matching the case, as well as various fabric straps and a leather one for the bronze watch. The colour changes depending on the dial, but we’re sure there’s a wider variety of colours available. All cases are water resistant to 300m. Lidija Lijic, a friend of the brand and world champion freediver, helped the development of the watch along the way.
Three dial colours are available for the watch. There’s a crisp white dial with blue accents or a grainy black with orange markers for the stainless steel models. The bronze version is, for now, limited to a grainy blue dial.
Inside each watch is the self-winding calibre ML115, which Maurice Lacroix developed with Sellita. It has a power reserve of 38 hours, a date indicator, and a 4Hz beat rate. Sadly, fans of mechanical watches may be a little disappointed to see that there is no open caseback on this watch. There is, instead, an engraved Vagues du Jura motif coupled with the brand’s logo.
Buyers will be pleased to know that the steel models are not limited edition watches, and they come at a price of €2100. However, the bronze model is a limited edition piece, with only 500 being made and sold at a cost of €2650.
