IWC has shifted gears with its latest release, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 AMG and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team Watches. Breaking away from its traditional aviation-inspired designs, IWC has ventured into the realm of motorsports, creating timepieces that are finely tuned for the racetrack.
The 41.1mm diameter case, standing at 14.8mm height, marks a departure from the standard pilot watch dimensions. This timepiece is built to make a statement on the wrist, signaling its racing pedigree with a bold presence. The distinctive ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale is the standout feature, transforming the watch’s appearance and functionality. The fixed black and polished ceramic bezel not only adds a luxurious touch but also serves a practical purpose, allowing users to calculate average speeds, a crucial element for motorsport enthusiasts.
Delving into the dial, IWC maintains its Pilot’s watch DNA while introducing nuanced changes. The polished black lacquer dial, a departure from the usual matte finish, showcases raised and applied elements. Recessed snailed counters, framed by superimposed rings, along with luminous applied numerals and glossy black hands contribute to the watch’s sporty aesthetic.
Notably, the seconds track on the periphery features precision markings, enhancing the watch’s functionality.
Under the hood, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 is powered by the caliber 69385, a manufacture movement controlled by a column wheel. Operating at 4Hz and boasting a 46-hour power reserve, the movement should work with precision and reliability on and off the track.
The strap options provide versatility, with the titanium AMG version offering a choice between a matching H-link titanium bracelet or a black rubber strap. On the other hand, the Ceratanium AMG Petronas F1 edition provides options of a matte Ceratanium bracelet or a black rubber strap, all equipped with a quick-change system for easy customization.
As for availability and pricing, these watches are part of the permanent collection. The titanium AMG versions are priced at EUR 11,900/USD 9,800 for the rubber strap and EUR 14,200/USD 11,700 for the bracelet. Meanwhile, the Ceratanium AMG Petronas F1 models retail for EUR 14,900/USD 13,700 (rubber strap) or EUR 22,400/USD 19,900 (bracelet).
