In 2014 Piaget will celebrate 140 years of history. To mark the occasion, Piaget has announced today the new Altiplano 38mm 900P, presenting it as the world’s thinnest mechanical watch with a thickness of just 3.65 mm. This new ultra-thin beauty pays homage to the brand’s historic ultra-thin 9P caliber from back in 1957. We have seen different ultra-thin creations from various brands in the past, but this is by far one of the most refined ultra-thin watches I’ve seen.

In order to make a watch this thin, the Piaget case design team and movement design team had to work together closely. The Piaget Altiplano 38mm 900P has a semi-skeletonized dial and shows parts of its ulta-thin movement. The balance wheel can be admired at an aperture at 7 o’clock on the dial. Black colored satin-brushed sunburst bridges, sunburst and circular brushed wheels, bevelled bridges, to black colored screws and a circular satin brushed caseback.

The movement is housed in a case in polished 18kt white gold with a diameter of 38 mm, features 20 jewels, oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and declares a power reserve of 48 hours. There are also 145 total components in this thin movement.
