The mention of the wading bird “Flamingo” doesn’t exactly evoke the color blue in mind, as flamingos have a natural pink coloration. Why are flamingos pink anyway? That’s a question for another time and place as Tudor has just released the newest edition of their Black Bay Chrono lineup, this time with a turquoise blue dial; Tudor Black Bay Chronograph “Flamingo Blue”.
The watch comes in a contemporary 41mm x 14.4mm size, with the case made of 316L stainless steel and finished with both satin-brushed and polished techniques. The lugs are beveled, the crown is screw-down, and it is engraved with Tudor’s rose emblem. The fixed bezel is fitted on the case that has a black anodized aluminum insert, displaying tachymetric information with silver markings. A domed sapphire crystal shields the dial.
The turquoise blue color of the dial is meant to stand toe to toe with the pink model of the past. Dubbed as “Flamingo Blue”, it’s actually inspired by the vibrancy of South Beach. Displaying the chronograph minutes and running seconds are the two hollowed black counters, providing a sharp contrast against the blue background. The applied hour markers are filled with Grade A Swiss Super-LumiNova, accompanied by Tudor’s signature “Snowflake” hands. A date window is found at 6 o’clock.
The watch is powered by Tudor Manufacture COSC-certified Chronograph Caliber MT5813, a column wheel and a vertical clutch equipped with automatic movement, offering 70 hours of power reserve.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” comes on a five-link stainless steel bracelet with Tudor’s “T-Fit” micro-adjustment clasp. The watch is priced at $5,875 USD.
