Grand Seiko has just introduced the latest piece from the Evolution 9 collection, the Mount Iwate Ice Blue SLGH027, a limited edition watch inspired by the ridges of Mount Iwate.
The SLGH027 comes in a 40mm x 11.7mm Ever-Brilliant Steel case with a 47mm lug to lug length. The proprietary Ever-Brilliant Steel offers enhanced corrosion resistance and a distinctively bright finish. The case features Zaratsu polishing combined with brushed surfaces for a balanced aesthetic. A box shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while a screw-down crown and see-through sapphire caseback contribute to its 100 meter water resistance.
The SLGH027 essentially expands upon the Evolution 9 collection, building on the design principles established by models like the White Birch SLGH005. The dial incorporates a newly developed Mount Iwate texture in ice blue as seen from above and thus this pattern presents a more irregular and pronounced texture compared to previous Mount Iwate dials.
The ice blue color is complemented by a blued steel seconds hand, adding contrast. Grand Seiko’s signature oversized and faceted hour markers and hands along with applied indices and brushed finishes grace the dial.
The timekeeping responsibilities fall upon Grand Seiko Calibre 9SA5, a 5Hz (36,000vph) automatic movement with the brand’s Dual Impulse Escapement, a free-sprung balance and twin-barrel architecture, resulting in an 80 hour power reserve. The movement, visible through the sapphire caseback, operates with an accuracy rating of +5 to -3 seconds per day.
The SLGH027 is paired with an Ever-Brilliant Steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp bearing the GS logo in 18k rose gold and a push button release. Limited to 1,200 pieces, the SLGH027 will be available from May 2025 through Grand Seiko boutiques and selected retailers, priced at EUR 11,500.
