If Tag Heuer’s track record is any indication, no one does a purple dial batter than them. While it may be debatable, there’s no denying that gradient dials look good; and by good I mean dazzling if they are matched with a suitable color. Case in point, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Chronograph duo of watches. This new Glassbox release offers one standard chronograph, while the second offering is a limited edition tourbillon model.

The case design is a key element of the new releases. The standard Carrera Chronograph Purple is set in a stainless steel case measuring 39mm x 13.86mm, showcasing angular lugs and alternating polished and brushed surfaces. In comparison, the limited-edition Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Purple is presented in a larger steel case sized at 42mm x 14.3mm, with a similar design language and an engraving on the case back that marks its exclusivity as one of only 200 pieces. Water resistance is 10 ATM.

The dial is treated with a sunray brushed finish that creates a gradient effect, transitioning from deep black at the periphery to a striking purple in the center. Both models feature recessed chronograph counters in a uniform black with silver accents and a concentric pattern that enhances legibility. The standard version displays rhodium plated, faceted indexes with white markings for contrast, while the tourbillon edition includes a dedicated tourbillon regulator positioned at 6 o’clock, maintaining the overall clean and modern aesthetic.

The two models are driven by different calibers, the standard Carrera Chronograph Purple is equipped with the TH20-00 Calibre, an evolution of the Heuer 02 featuring a bi-directional winding mechanism, a column-wheel chronograph and an 80h power reserve. The tourbillon version houses the TH20-09 Calibre, which is also based on the Heuer 02, but incorporates a tourbillon regulator that contributes to a slightly reduced 65h power reserve. In both cases, the movement’s high level of finishing is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back.

The duo comes with a perforated black calfskin strap featuring contrasting reverse details and a double-folding safety clasp. The standard Carrera Chronograph Purple ref. CBS2219.FC6607 retails for CHF 6,500, while the limited-edition Tourbillon model ref. CBS5017.FC6605 is priced at CHF 34,000 and is released in a run of just 200 pieces as part of TAG Heuer’s latest schedule.
