Breitling watches are often described as sporty, yet technical. They usually come in nice-looking polished cases with brilliant bracelets and large watch faces with particularly great readability for divers and aviators alike. They are a dedicated brand in technical watches for many reasons. They molded the development of the wrist chronograph and became a frontrunner in the self-winding complication therein. Breitlink is also a brand so luxurious, they actually partnered with Bentley over ten years ago to make extravagant watches that could hold a candle to the Bentley cars. All models feature a mechanical automatic winding apparatus, and Swiss precision entirely developed and manufactured in Breitling’s own workshops.
More accomplishments
Going all the way back to 1884, Breitling’s major accomplishments include the work they put forth on the wrist chronograph as well as the use of thermo compensated Super-Quartz. This quartz is more precise than the standard stuff – ten times more accurate in fact. It’s a trusted brand by watch collectors worldwide because of the impeccable movement mechanisms and it’s a beloved brand by divers – the Superocean category in particular, because of the easiest to read dials on the market and even greater water resistance.
The Steelfish name
The watch has a name that perfectly describes its superior design and authentic sea-going instrument. Picture a perfectly designed piece of steel that swims brilliantly with the fishes. Steel is one of the strongest of all metals, and the animals that live in the sea are some of the most mysterious and well adapted to anything that the environment throws at them.
A modern classic conquering the depths
Breitling came out with this special watch which unites the renowned performance of the classic Superocean label with an athletic look. The Steelfish comes in three equally attractive choices of dial colors: blue, silver or black. Choose your band as well – it comes in rubber or fitted steel. The renowned rotating, broad bezel spins in one direction and is inlaid with black rubber characters. It has a large window showing the day and date at the 6 o’clock mark, and is surrounded by a sophisticated satin brushed finish. Another great feature is the protective screw-locked crown with chrono-pushers which are inactive until unlocked.
The Steel fish contains the Breitling caliber 13, a certified automatic chronograph. This means the chronometer is tested by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute and has been proven to be a remarkably high quality, high precision, and self-winding watch. It also has an impressive resistance to water up to depths of 500 meters or 1,650 feet.
To me, the hands of this beautiful watch are just as impressive – they are coated with a luminous paint and a Sapphire crystal that makes the time readable even in the dark depths. The face is glare-proof as well, making ideal reading another assurance.
Like all of the Breitling products, the Steelfish chronograph conjures up a very real sense of quality that you notice right away upon holding it in your hand. The company may be setting out to help divers everywhere master the mer, and to do so with style. For more info, please visit breitling.com
