Longines are a renowned member of the famous Swatch Group alongside other watch brands such as Tissot, Jaquet Droz, and Blancpain. They are a brand dedicated to sophistication and sports and are the official timekeepers and official watch of a variety of sporting events from horse racing to tennis.
The brand began their relationship with sports in 1896 when they provided timers for the first modern day Olympics and also provided a watch for Arctic explorer Louis Amédée de Savoie. Today, they are the official sponsors of a variety of sports events including the Royal Ascot, an extravagant horse racing event which takes place at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England that takes place from the 17th-21st June. This is an example of one of the many events Longines sponsors and the event certainly reflects the brand’s watches- sophisticated and stylish.
For the ladies, his particular Longines model (L2.285.0.87.6) is from their Conquest collection that incorporates both sportiness and elegance making them eye-catchingly striking at any glamorous event. The 29.5mm diameter case is steel with a bezel covered in 30 sparkling Top Wesselton diamonds and an open caseback so the Automatic self winding mechanical movement beating at 28’800 vibrations per hour can be seen. Sapphire crystal glass is used on the dial and the open case back so the watch is more protected and scratch resistant.
The dial is also an attractive mother-of-pearl colour and it also features Longines’ famous winged hourglass logo on the dial that is easily recognised. There is also a date window at 3 o’clock and Wesselton diamonds mark the hour indexes.
