Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark II “Rio 2016” Watch

The re-introduction of the Speedmaster Mark II earlier this year was welcomed by many watch geeks, especially the Omega enthusiasts. Omega is now presenting a new version, the Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016”, dedicated to the Rio 2016 Olympic Game. The 27th Olympic Games marks the first time a South American city to hosts the event. The three sub-dials of the new model are decorated by rings in bronze, silver and gold which easily recall the medals awarded to the Olympic champions. Bronze is used for the 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, silver for the small seconds at 9 o’clock and, finally, yellow gold for the 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock. Inspired by the 1969 model of the original Omega Speedmaster Mark II, the polished and brushed stainless steel case is barrel-shaped with polished crown and pushers and offers water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet. Its dimensions remains the same as the model that was announced back in January this year. (42.4 mm x 46.2 mm)

One of the distinctive details of the watch is, the transparent tachymeter scale on the sapphire crystal is illuminated from beneath by an aluminium ring filled with Super-LumiNova. The white and black hour and minute hands stand out in the matt black dial. They are coated with Super-LumiNova, as is the central chronograph hand and markers.

The Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” is powered by a self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement, the Omega calibre 3330, equipped with an Si14 silicon balance spring and a Co-Axial escapement with three levels. And it also comes equipped with a 52 hour power reserve.

The logo of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is seen on the screw-in caseback which is engraved with “Si14”, “Column Wheel”. Only 2016 pieces of the Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” will be produced. Retail price is EUR 4,840. For more info, please visit omegawatches.com
