Carl F. Bucherer’s Manero collection comprises of finely crafted elegant looking watches perfect for those suit and tie events. Just about a year ago though, the brand added a bit of sporty flair to the collection by introducing the causal looking Carl F. Bucherer Bucherer Manero Flyback Retro. For Baselworld 2019 the brand has now come up with a dressier version of the Flyback retro featuring an 18k pink gold case making it feel more at home with the rest of Manero collection.
The Manero Flyback Retro is a handsome looking watch and the face on this new pink gold version remains virtually unchanged with a few subtle differences. It features a bi-compax layout with nicely recessed with silver colored sub-dials that provide a nice contrast against the sunburst black surroundings. The dauphine style handset along with the pointed and faceted hour markers still give the watch a nice vintage vibe but have been presented in a golden color tone giving the watch a dressy vibe. The vibrant splashes of red are still present in the form of the red circular ring outside the markers along with the chronograph seconds hand and the Flyback text adding just the right amount of color to the dial.
Made of Solid 18kt pink gold, the case is the major highlight of this new watch and gives this watch an elegant and charming look. It measures 43mm wide and is 14.45mm tall which makes it a tad larger for a dress watch and would make it a tad difficult to slide it under a cuff, but the downward curving lugs would definitely make it sit comfortably on a variety of wrists. The finish on the case looks quite good with a nice interplay between polished and brushed surfaces. On top of the case is box-shaped sapphire crystal and there is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the back of the case.
Powering the watch is Carl F. Bucherer’s automatic chronograph caliber CFB1970. This is an integrated chronograph movement which is based on the venerable Valjoux 7750 and has been modified by La Joux-Perret to add a column wheel mechanism and a flyback function. It operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement has also been beautifully decorated and can be viewed in all its glory through the transparent case back.
In all, the Carl F. Bucherer Bucherer Manero Flyback in pink gold is a great looking watch that showcases how a big a difference can a shift in material make to the overall aesthetic of a timepiece. The watch would come attached to a dark grey rally style aged, perforated leather strap and would retail at a price of CHF 16,900.
