The Octo line by Bulgari offers the freshest approach to a watch design. We have seen very thin watches which seems to be the new trend these days but honestly, it is hard to let go of many years of attachment to traditional case designs. With the Octo, it is also different but somehow it keeps a timely look. It is not super thin and is not too thick either, however, that is not really the case in point. Below are the successive releases of the Octo three hand model and the three-counter chronograph model.
OCTO L’ORIGINALE
The Octo by Bulgari, first launched in 2012 offers a fresh perspective in the world of watchmaking. Its new case design is characterized by 110 facets whereas we usually see smooth cases with limited facets as watchmakers are after cleaner overall look. Although it is very interesting to see that the Octo fairs very well when it comes to high fashion.
Bulgari adds the Octo L’Originale to its collection this year. It also keeps the original size seen on the original Octo. The new watch is made of titanium featuring a fascinating matte finish that perfectly complements the faceted look. We get a sort of shin compared to a blinding reflection of any light source which is very cool and subtle.
Titanium is an excellent material for a watch as it boasts higher thermal, mechanical and corrosion resistance compared to traditional steel. Its lightness is also an additional yet perfect benefit for the wearer. This material is used not just on the case but also on the crown and the dial which is completed by applied hour markers.
The Octo has become one of the most successful creations of Bulgari defining a modern notion of elegance and strength that goes far beyond fashion and functionality.
Powering the Octo L’Original is the Calibre BVL 191 Solotempo, a mechanical self-winding movement boasting 42 hours of power reserve. Its chamfered, snailed and Côtes de Genève motif are partially visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The Octo L’Original is water-resistant to 100 meters and wears on an integrated rubber strap with folding clasp. It retails for Euro 6,950.
OCTO L’ORIGINALE CHRONOGRAPH
The Octo L’Originale Chronograph is a three-counter chronograph powered by the self-winding BVL 328 Velocissimo calibre. This is a 5 Hz high frequency mechanical movement that is equipped with a silicon escapement.
Its chamfered, snailed, and Côtes de Genève motif are partially visible through the exhibition caseback. The movement offers 50 hours of power reserve which is not bad for a column-wheel chronograph.
The Octo L’Originale Chronograph is also water-resistant to 100 metres. Its handsome 41 mm titanium case frames a nice grey dial with PVD coated black hands and applied hour markers. It features a subtle date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. The crown also adds a black ceramic insert that goes nicely with the overall case, It is interesting to note that the pushers somehow appear like crown guards thanks to the faceted design.
The watch wears on a comfortable rubber strap with folding clasp. The Bulgari Octo L’Originale Chronograph looks sporty and it retails for Euro 9,950. For more info, visit Bulgari online.
