Certina DS Action Day-Date Powermatic 80 Watch

The Swatch group has been focusing a lot on its entry-level brands lately. Just a few days back we brought you news about Mido’s new vintage-inspired stunner the Patrimony Multifort and now it’s Certina’s turn. Falling under Certina’s aqua collection, featuring an impressive 200 meters water resistance and slightly restrained dressy looks, the new DS Action Day-Date is the brands attempt towards creating a great everyday piece.

The dial on the new DS Action Day-Date has been cleanly executed with some interesting details that make it look attractive. Dominating the face are sharp applied triangular markers which give the watch a modern appeal and have been deeply filled with luminous material to ensure good low light visibility. The minute track is a mix of short and long hash marks with some nice orange accents which can also be found on the tip of the second’s hand and the depth rating text. This pop of color brings the dial to life and gives it just the right amount of sportiness. The large handset is well proportioned which should make it easy to read the time and giving the watch its name is a day-date window at 3.

The stainless-steel case on the DS Action Day-Date measures 41mm in diameter which is a nice size for a modern wristwatch. On top of the case is a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on one side and there is also an exhibition glass on the back which can be used to view the powerhouse behind this watch. The case is water resistant to 200 meters which is achieved with the help of a threaded crown at 3. Powering this watch is the Powermatic 80 movement which as the name suggests offers an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. The movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz and features a customized black rotor with Certina branding.

The Certina DS Action Day-Date is a great looking watch which proves that a good mechanical watch does not necessarily need to make a hole in one’s pocket. The watch is available in either a blue sunburst dial with a brown leather strap or a black dial with a black leather strap or a steel bracelet. The watch retails at USD 745 on the leather strap and USD 780 on the metal bracelet.
