Last year Edox took a walk down the memory lane and released a few exciting vintage-inspired watches such as the Hydro-Sub and the SkyDiver Automatic Limited Edition based on a few popular vintage models. Now, at the onset of 2022, the brand has revealed the Delfin Mecano 60th anniversary Limited Edition, a bold and striking watch that celebrates the 60th anniversary of Edox’s popular dive watch, the Delfin. This new watch features a distinctive black skeletonized dial with golden highlights which is packed inside a PVD coated case that is water-resistant to 300 meters.
Like other members of the Mecano family, the Mecano 60th anniversary limited edition comes with an open-worked dial but with a few differences. To begin with, the dial on this new watch is not fully skeletonized and the cutouts resemble the blades of a turbine unlike the other variations of the Delfin Mecano that feature tuning fork style cutouts. This results in a somewhat partial view of the movement from the front especially when compared to the rest of the Mecano family wherein more the movement is exposed, but that’s what also makes this watch stand out from the pack. The matt black dial provides the perfect background for the gold-tone indices and hands which have been filled with black luminous paint to ensure good low light visibility. Overall, the legibility of the dial remains quite good despite which is not an easy feat to achieve with a skeletonized dial.
The case of this watch measures 43mm in diameter, which is somewhat on the larger side, however, the downward curving lugs should make the watch sit comfortably on the wrist. While the case features a nice mix of angles and curves what makes this reference intriguing is the mix of different finishes on offer. The 12-sided bezel on top of the case along with the threaded crown at 3 has been PVD coated to match the color of the dial whereas the rest of the case has been left as stainless steel with a nice, brushed finish throughout. The Delfin Mecano 60th anniversary limited edition is water-resistant to a higher 300 meters compared to the other models which offer 200 meters of water resistance.
Inside this watch beats what Edox calls the calibre 85. An automatic movement, the calibre 85 is a skeletonized version of the venerable and trustworthy Sellita SW200. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours when fully wound. The movement can be viewed through a sapphire case back.
Only 600 pieces of the new Delfin Mecano 60th anniversary Limited Edition would ever be produced. The watch comes attached to an integrated black rubber strap. The retail price of the watch is EUR 1,650.
