Glashütte Original has been cooking up something a little different for folks who like their watches with both classic styling and just enough quirk to keep things interesting. Meet the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase in two fresh dial variants: “frosted copper“ in a galvanic rose color and the “frosted silver” in galvanic silver. Both watches stick to the brand’s tried and true formula but manage to bring some new flavors to the table without overdoing it.
The case keeps things straightforward; 40mm across and 12.2mm tall made in stainless steel with a polished finish that doesn’t scream for attention but has enough shine to catch the eye if the light hits just right. There’s a sapphire crystal on the front and back, letting you peek at what’s ticking inside. And with a water resistance of 50 meters, it’ll handle the occasional splash but probably shouldn’t be your pool buddy.
Hopping onto the dial, this is where the real magic takes place. The dial has a fine grain texture that plays with the light in a way that’s neither showy nor dull. The Roman numerals and hands are in blued steel, adding just enough contrast to make reading the time easy on the eyes. The moon phase sits neatly at 10 o’clock with a playful moon and stars, while the brand’s signature Panorama date is perched at 4 o’clock. The silver variant keeps the same layout but feels brighter and a bit more casual thanks to its clean backdrop. In keeping with the Senator Excellence‘s understated design, the Roman numerals function as hour markers, encouraging minute estimations for a clean, uncluttered dial.
Inside the case beats the Calibre 36-24, an in-house automatic movement with a 100-hour power reserve. It hums along at 4Hz and comes equipped with a silicon balance spring. Magnetic fields, corrosion, and temperature shifts pose no threat to the silicon balance spring, supporting consistent reliability. The movement is finished to the traditional decorations standards of Glashütte watchmaking with striping, beveled edges, and a skeletonized rotor featuring the double-G logo.
As for the strap you got options, both the “frosted silver” and “frosted copper” variants are paired with a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap; classic and dressy; with the additional option of a blue synthetic fabric strap that feels a bit more casual and sporty without going overboard. Both straps fasten with either a pin buckle or a stainless steel folding clasp. Price-wise, you’re looking at a price bracket which firmly places it in the high-end luxury segment. Availability is through Glashütte Original boutiques and authorized retailers.
