Swiss brand Hamilton started life as an American company in the year 1892 and its American Classic collection pays a tribute to its historic roots. In 2017 Hamilton expanded the American Classic collection with the Intra-Matic 68 Chrono, a modern re-issue of a popular automatic chronograph reference from 1968. And now the brand has released an intriguing three-hand variant of the Intra-Matic.
One glance at the Intra-Matic Auto is all it takes to notice that this watch is a descendant of the Intra-Matic family. Presented in a striking combination of blue and cream, the face showcases close familiarity to its elder chronograph cousin with a refined and clean execution. Rectangular applied markers with lume plots form the hour index. Surrounding the hour index is a double minute track that includes fine white markings printed on the inside and black markings with numerals at intervals of 5 printed on the cream section on the outer periphery. The use of cream color not only helps with legibility but also provides an excellent contrast to the rest of the dial and makes the watch quite attractive. The hands are baton-style and there is also a nicely done date window at 6 to keep the symmetry of the dial intact.
The case like the dial bears a close resemblance in design to the Intra-Matic chronograph, however, features a much slimmer profile. The case is fully polished and measures a modest 40mm in diameter and features downward angled lugs to make it sit comfortably on the wrist. Water-resistance is limited to just 50 meters implying that you would be better off staying from the pool with this watch. There is a sapphire crystal on the front, whereas the case back has been kept closed.
Ticking inside this watch is Hamilton calibre H-10. This movement is a highly modified version of the venerable 2824-2 and beats at 3 Hz offering a power reserve of around 80 hours. The movement also comes equipped with an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring.
The new Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Blue (Reference: – H38425540) comes mated to a brown calf leather strap and retails for a compelling CHF 950.
