Hublot’s love for Capri is undeniable. After opening an exclusive boutique on the island in 2017 and celebrating it’s second-anniversary last year by releasing the Hublot Classic Fusion Special Edition Capri, Hublot is back once again to showcase its admiration for the rugged and dramatic beauty of Capri. The latest iteration of the Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Special Edition Capri sports a black ceramic case along with bright blue highlights throughout and pays a tribute to the natural beauty of Blue Grotto.
The Blue Grotto is a sea cave on the coast of the Island of Capri. It is widely popular for being naturally lit with a bright blue light that is generated when the light passing through the arched entrance and a deep underlying cavity shines through the seawater inside the cavern. Hublot has used the high contrast combination of black and blue to reciprocate the magic of this natural phenomenon. The face of the watch has been presented in a deep shade of black and has been finished in matt to provide the perfect backdrop for the polished and faceted applied markers as well as the blue minute track. The two registers at 3 and 9 have been rendered in a beautiful and bright turquoise blue shade that is reminiscent of the sparkling blue water that flows inside the Blue Grotto. The hands like the indices are faceted and polished and are well proportioned making it easy to tell the time at a glance.
The case on this watch has been crafted from Black ceramic making it highly resistant to corrosion and scratches. It measures a large 45mm in diameter and features a familiar design showing a nice mix of curves and sharp angles. Sitting atop the case is a smooth bezel that has been made from blue ceramic and provides a great contrast against the black case. The bezel also features the six exposed screws, a signature design element of the fusion watches. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters.
Flipping the watch over you get an intriguing semi-transparent case back. Most of the surface area of the sapphire window has been deeply stamped with a beautiful picture of long rocks and blue water to depict the scenery at the Capri islands. However, also visible is some part of the Hublot HUB1143 movement that powers this watch. This is an automatic chronograph movement that operates at a frequency of 4hz and offers an autonomy of around 42 hours when fully wound.
The new Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Special Edition Capri comes attached to a turquoise blue rubber strap and would retail for CHF 12,900. The watch is limited to just 30 pieces and would be available to purchase exclusively through the Hublot boutique on the Capri Islands.
