With Watches & Wonders finally opening its digital doors, we at WristReview are delighted to bring the best of coverage like always. So, without wasting any time, here it is ladies and gentlemen one of the latest 2020 novelties from the house of A. Lange & Sohne, the new Zeitwerk Minute Repeater featuring a beautiful dial and an all-new white gold case.
Released back in 2008, the Zeitwerk can easily be considered as the boldest, quirkiest, and most modern-looking offering from the brand. In 2015 the Zeitwerk was given a sonic upgrade with the addition of a minute repeater mechanism and this new novelty is based on that very watch with a few changes. The first notable difference is the new Blue colorway, that provides excellent contrast against the silver surroundings and looks livelier than the older rhodium model. On the layout front, you still get the distinctive digital display windows for hours and minutes on the left and right, a power reserve indicator below 12, and a large second’s sub-dial at 6. The sub- has been nicely recessed and features a concentric circular pattern for added visual interest. Furthermore, like the previous version, the sections surrounding the seconds sub-dial have been hollowed out to exhibit the minute repeater mechanism that can be triggered using the pusher at 10. Once engaged the gongs and hammers on display work in harmony to sound the time being indicated on the dial.
The second important change in the new 2020 Zeitwerk Minute repeater is related to the choice of material used on the case. The case on the previous version was crafted from Platinum, which has now been replaced with white gold. Dimension wise the case still measures 44.2mm wide, with a thickness of 14.1mm, making for a watch that should offer tremendous wrist presence. The case is water-resistant to a mere 30 meters.
While the front of this watch offers a unique timekeeping experience, the excitement heightens when the watch is flipped over to enjoy a great view of the exceptionally decorated and highly capable in-house caliber L043.5. A hand-wound movement, the L043.5 comprises a total of 771 parts that includes 93 rubies and 3 screwed gold chatons. On the decoration front, you can see Glashutte striping, blued screws, and hand engraving throughout in typical Lange fashion. The movement operates at a frequency of 18000 vph and offers an autonomy of around 36 hours when fully wound.
The new 2020 A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater would come attached to a matching blue real alligator strap. The production would be limited to just 30 pieces and the watch would retail for EUR 449,000.
