Released back in 2018, the Baumatic is a well-priced, modern everyday wristwatch powered by an innovative in-house caliber. Initially introduced in classic black and white colors, last year, Baume et Mercier brought an exciting blue gradient dial version into the mix to make things interesting. And now for 2020, the Baumatic collection is once again seeing the addition of a new family member, the Baume et Mercier Day-Date Moonphase. Featuring a solid gold construction, a romantic Moonphase display, and a set of practical day-date complications, this new watch presents a more luxurious take on the Baumatic.
Based on the standard Clifton Baumatic, the face of the Baumatic Day-Date Moonphase looks familiar with a few noteworthy additions. Presented in a light charcoal shade with a nice fume effect, the dial is visually attractive and provides a great backdrop for the polished and applied rose gold applied markers. The minute track comprises white printed hash marks along with double-digit numerals at intervals of 5 to make it easy to read the time using the dauphine shaped handset. While legibility and precise timekeeping have been a part of the Baumatic since its inception, this new watch manages to keep it intact even with the inclusion of the day, date and Moonphase complications that have been thoughtfully implemented using sub-dials at 12 and 6.
Thec case on the Clifton Baumatic Day-Date Moonphase is crafted from solid pink gold and has a slightly larger footprint than its younger 3-hand cousin measuring 42mm in diameter with a thickness of around 13mm. A sapphire crystal on the front protects the dial and there is also an exhibition window on the back giving a nice view of the well-decorated Baumatic BM14 calibre. An in-house automatic movement, the BM14 operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a massive power reserve of 120 hours. The modern movement is COSC certified to offer extreme accuracy and features a silicon escapement to provide better magnetic resistance.
The Baume et Mercier Baumatic Day-Date Moonphase is a luxury dress watch that offers a great blend of looks and timekeeping precision. The watch would come attached to a blue alligator strap and would retail for EUR 14,500.
