A short while back Cuervo Y Sobrino released a blue dial variation of the elegant and handsome Historiador Retrógrado watch. And now the brand has revealed a slew of bold and colorful Buceador Caribe dive watches that are ready to beat the scorching heat of the summer season.
One of the things that make Cuervo Y Sobrino watches stand out from the crowd is their interesting case designs and the new Buceador Caribe collection is no different. Measuring 43mm in diameter with a height of around 16mm, the case on these new watches has been crafted from stainless steel (DLC coated on the black dial variant) and features an attractive muscular design with some peculiar details. Perched on top of the case is a polished sloped bezel. Moving downwards you then have an octagonal brushed surface that makes the watch emit a 70S Gentaesque vibe. Next, you have the mid-case with the broad and chunky lugs. And finally, the bottom of the case is a closed case back with a deeply embossed motif of a diver surrounded by fishes. What makes the case even more visually intriguing is the unique setup. The right side of the case is flanked by a crown at the 2 o’clock position which controls the internal rotating dive time bezel. At the 4 o’clock position is a trigger that controls the locking and unlocking of the crown at 2. The left side of the case then features a threaded crown that helps in keeping the watch water-resistant to 200 meters.
The dial is another area where the new Buceador Caribe watches shine. Offered in brown, blue, and black, the dial is characterized by thick lume painted hour indices and broad sword-style hands. Furthermore, the gradient effect makes the dial more dynamic and gives the watch a tropical vibe. Each dial variation also comes with accent colors for added contrast. The blue dial gets yellow accents whereas the black and brown variations get red accents. The outer periphery of the dial features a rotating chapter ring with minute markings and to keep the balance of the dial intact the date window has been placed at the 6 o’clock position. Overall, the dial is highly legible just like a dive watch should be.
Ticking inside these watches is the calibre CYS5104. This is an automatic movement based on the Peseux 224 that operates at 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 38 hours.
The new Buceador Caribe watches some attached to matching rubber straps. The steel models will retail for EUR 2,800 and the DLC model will retail for EUR 3,000.
