Last year Girard-Perregaux gave the classic and sporty Laureato a bold makeover by introducing the Laureato Absolute collection. And now, to commence 2020, Girard-Perregaux has released the Laureato Absolute Light, a new watch that showcases the brand’s capability and desire to think beyond the conventions to create a unique product that focuses on bringing the wearers closer to its mechanical intricacies.
Let’s begin by looking at the case. Measuring a large 44mm in diameter and having a thickness of 11.5mm, the case on the Laureato Absolute Light has been made using a combination of sapphire and titanium. This helps the watch unparalleled transparency from every angle and should also translate into great wrist comfort courtesy of its lightweight construction. It’s is also worth noting that despite unique material choices the case still manages to maintain a familiar silhouette associated with the Laureato collection comprising of signature elements such as the octagonal bezel on top. The case is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The openness and airiness of the case flows into the dial as well that been designed to give an unobtrusive view of the complicated internals behind this watch. The entire face has been left open except for the outer flange that features 12 ridges that are not only aesthetically intriguing but also act as the hour markers. Time can be read using a semi-skeletonized handset that has been filled with luminous paint to ensure low light visibility. Powering the Laureato Absolute Light is the brands in-house automatic caliber GP01800. The movement has been thoughtfully skeletonized to expose different components such as the golden balance wheel at 12 and the mainspring at 4 for the wearer to enjoy. The movement operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers an impressive autonomy of around 54 hours.
The Laureato Absolute Light is a testimony to the technical and artistic prowess of Girard Perregaux. The watch would come attached to an integrated rubber strap with a titanium buckle. As we do not have the price details on this beauty yet, we will update this space in the near future as and when we hear back from the brand on the same.
