Grand Seiko finds inspiration in nature’s often-overlooked nuances and are expert at masterfully translating them into stunning watch dials. Now celebrating 20 years of Spring Drive, they just dropped the latest duo of Spring Drive watches, with the newest theme being “Morning Glow of Hotaka Peaks,” inspired by the sunrise on a mountain. This series started with a GMT in February and now includes two new models; the ‘Morning Glow of Hotaka Peaks’ 9R Manual-winding Spring Drive SBGY035 and Sunray 9R Spring Drive SBGA499.
The 9R Manual-winding Spring Drive SBGY035 features a sleek 38.5mm x 10.2mm stainless steel case with a refined profile and flowing lines. Its red-brown dial, with a subtle fumé gradient, evokes the beauty of Japan’s autumn foliage and the fiery sunrise. Inspired by the Iwao series, the textured dial adds depth and is complemented by pinched, wedge-shaped hour markers.
Powered by the 9R31 manual Spring Drive movement with a 72-hour power reserve, this model is finished with a brown crocodile leather strap priced at USD8,500.
The Sunray 9R Spring Drive SBGA499 features a vibrant red sunray dial that beautifully captures the rich colors of Japanese autumn. It includes a date window at 3 o’clock and a power reserve indicator in the lower right quadrant.
Powered by the Spring Drive Caliber 9R65, it offers a 72-hour power reserve, precise accuracy of +1/-1 seconds per day, and improved water resistance up to 100 meters. The watch comes in a 40.2mm x 12.8mm stainless steel case and is paired with a steel bracelet. It’s priced at USD5,800 (including VAT).
