Introducing The Sinn 105 Watches

After releasing the small but highly capable U50 earlier this year, Sinn is now back with a bunch of new tool watches, which includes the new 105 series. Comprising two three-handers and two GMT’s, the Series 105 watches feature white and black dials, new dial-layouts, even a new set of hands, sticking to Sinn’s no-nonsense design DNA.

Like many other offerings by Sinn, the dials on the new Sinn 105 watches come with a clean and crisp presentation and a high focus on legibility. Presented in black or white, the dials use rounded rectangular printed markers for the hour index, hash marks for minutes, and rounded lume filled hands. And to spice up things and add some vibrancy to the dial, Sinn has even made use of orange accents. Also, like most other Sinn offerings, the text has been kept restricted to a bare minimum.  

As the pictures suggest, both the GMT and the three-handed watches are slightly different in functionality and design but do offer a lot in common. First and foremost is the case, which, in case you are wondering, has indeed been borrowed from the Sinn 104. It still is made from stainless steel, measures a modest 41mm, has nice downward angled lugs for better wrist comfort, and is water-resistant to 200 meters. There are, however, a couple of differences as well. First, the case has been given a bead blasted finish for a more toolish appearance. Second, the bezel on top is a ratcheting bi-directional unit that comes with a black hard coating using Sinn’s Tegiment technology, making it highly resistant to scratches.

The simpler of the two, this new watch offers a day and date complication over and above regular time-keeping. And this time around, Sinn has decided to stack the day and date vertically at 6, which in my opinion is slightly quirky, but also makes it stand out from the crowd. The second’s hand has been painted orange and the bezel on top has a dual scale layout for better readability of time. Ticking inside this watch is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic calibre that operates at 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement can be viewed through the sapphire case back and offers some nice decoration that includes blued a screed and a gold-tone rotor. The watch can be purchased on leather or silicone for $1,560 and the bracelet for $1,840.

This model, as the name suggests, can track an extra time-zone, which is taken care of using the arrow tipped orange hand along with the 24-hour markings on the bezel. Unlike the three-hander, the UTC only offers a simple date complication, which has once again been positioned at 6, for better balance and symmetry. As far as the mechanicals are concerned, this watch is driven by the Sellita calibre SW330-1, which operates at 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours. The movement is nicely decorated using perlage, Geneva stripes, and blued screws. Like its younger cousin, this watch can also be purchased on either a leather or a silicone strap for $1,830 and a bracelet for $2,110.
