Back in 2018 Tutima introduced a new collection of affordable three-handed sports watches called the Coastline. For 2020, the Glashütte-based brand has now added a new member to the Coastline family in the form of the M2 Coastline Chronograph.
To begin with, the new M2 Coastline Chronograph shares a lot in common with its three-hand sibling. First and foremost is the case. Measuring a modern 43mm in diameter the case on the Coastline chronograph still features a lightweight Titanium construction and has a barrel-shaped lugless design that should make it sit comfortably on the wrist despite the 15.8mm height. The 300-meter water resistance also remains intact, but this time around you get two integrated pushers for the chronograph function along with the screw-down crown at 3.
Like the case, the dial on the Coastline Chronograph looks quite familiar albeit with added functionality. The blocky hour index, the baton-style hands, and the sloped chapter ring with a printed minute track have all been carried over from its three-hand cousin. Additionally, you also get a tri-compax layout with a 12-hour counter at 6, a running seconds counter at 9, and a 30-minute counter at 12. There is also a date window at 3 and the indices along with the hour and minute hands have been coated with luminous paint to enhance low light visibility. Overall the dial looks clean, uncluttered, and highly legible.
Driving this watch is Tutima’s Caliber 310 which is based on the venerable Valjoux 7750. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers an autonomy of around 48 hours when fully wound. While it would have been great to have a view of the movement, Tutima has chosen to keep it hidden behind a titanium case back in typical tool watch fashion.
The new Tutima M2 Coastline Chronograph would be available in two variations. A Matt blue dial that would come attached to a brown leather strap and a Matt black dial that would come attached to an integrated titanium bracelet. The Blue dial version would retail for USD 3,300 whereas the Black dial version would retail for USD 3,600.
