Pilots watches are a part of IWC’s core collection, and the Schaffhausen-based brand has recently been working towards keeping its Pilots watches upgraded inside and out. The latest addition to the brand’s Pilot watch catalog is the new Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition Racing Green. Limited to just 250 pieces, this new watch features a verdant sunburst dial, with a perpetual calendar display packed inside a black ceramic case.
Green is a trending color in the world of horology and IWC has been quick to respond by first releasing the IWC 41 chronograph in green and now the Big Pilots Perpetual Calendar. The shade of green chosen by IWC is vivid and offers a great contrast to the printed white elements on the dial. Like previously released variations, this watch also uses four thoughtfully placed registers to implement the Perpetual Calendar complication.
At 12 is a double moon phase complication, at the 3 is the date along with the power reserve indication, at 6 is the month of the year, and at 9, you get the running seconds along with the day of the week. There is also a window that displays the year neatly tucked between 7 and 8. All hands have been gold plated, and the hands to read the calendar function feature a red triangular tip.
In true Big Pilots fashion, the case measures a large 46mm in diameter and has a thickness of around 15.6mm. It is crafted from black ceramic and is water-resistant to 69 meters, thanks to the threaded oversized onion style crown at 3. The rear of the watch is equipped with sapphire glass that gives an expansive view of the caliber 52615. An automatic movement, the caliber 52615 operates at 4 Hz and offers an autonomy of around 168 hours. It comprises 386 components and 54 jewels. The movement is beautifully decorated using perlage, Geneva stripes, and blued screws. It also comes equipped with an 18 kt skeletonized gold rotor.
The new Big Pilots Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition Racing Green is limited to just 250 pieces and would be accompanied by a high-quality black calfskin strap. The watch will retail for CHF 37,000.
