Next up on our grand tour around the world of watches that will be auctioned off in the Only Watch auctions this November is the Louis Vuitton stop. Please remember to take all your belongings with you and also try to remember some of those French lessons you had back in school, today’s article is looking closer at the Louis Vuitton Escale Worldtime “The World is a Dancefloor” watch for Only Watch.
Louis Vuitton is very well renowned for making some of the finest leather goods and hard cases the world has ever seen. Their signature design features the LV logo repeated on the sign of their briefcases, everyone who sees it will immediately recognise it, the effect that Louis Vuitton was no doubt after. The same applies to the Escale Worldtime watch. A quick glance at the face of it will no doubt baffle most, the bright, vibrant and very noticeable colours of the dial draw attention and hypnotise those who look at it for too long. If your daily wear is a Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin World Time watch then this will probably be a doddle for you to work out. The yellow line extending from the top of the “pyramid” (it’s really supposed to be a 3D effect) is the marker, it points to the city ring around the outside of the watch which on this piece is made up of white text on a blue ring with multicoloured squares adding to the looks of the piece. The indicator extends over two rings, the outer being the hour indicator which shows day and night by way of black colouring while the inner ring is the minute indicator which has 5-minute intervals on it. Inside that is a blue seconds indicator ring.
Louis Vuitton hasn’t just designed this watch and then given up on it. The movement inside the piece is unique to this watch too, it’s the calibre LV 106, an automatic movement assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. It’s been placed inside an 18K white gold case which is water resistant to 30m and also 42mm in diameter. Continuing on with the unusual theme (for a watch) of bright blue, the alligator leather strap is an eye catching colour, to add to this, the inside of the leather strap has been coloured yellow and there’s also yellow contrast stitching on the strap too. Maybe the executive of a certain Swedish flat pack furniture company might be interested in this watch? Who knows.
