Oris is a brand that I admire for their continued support towards the preservation of nature. Earlier this year the brand extended a helping hand to preserve Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest freshwater lake. Now the brand has collaborated with Seoul’s KEFM (Korean Federation for environmental movement) to clean up the Hangang River that flows through the Korean capital. And like always to raise the funds for this initiative, the brand has released the new Oris Aquis Hangang limited edition watch featuring a striking green dial.
Like many previously release limited edition Aquis timepieces, the new Aquis Hangang is all about that beautiful sunburst emerald dial. The inspiration behind this bold colorway is the vivid hues of the creek waters at the Hangang river’s source. The bright green face is not only visually striking but is also a refreshing standout amidst the plethora of black and blue dial watches that exist out there. As far as the dial layout is concerned Oris has gone with an unconventional but familiar design, previously seen on the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III. You get applied indices filled with white luminous paint, distinctive lume filled hour and minute hands, a printed minute track common to all Aquis watches. But where things get interesting is with the implementation of running seconds and the date. There is a subsidiary second’s dial at 9 while the date can be read using a floating indicator combined with a dedicated 31-day chapter ring printed next to the hour indices.
The case on this watch is made of stainless steel and bears a unique kettle shaped silhouette that is synonymous with the Aquis line up. It measures 43mm in diameter and showcases a nice mix of brushed and polished finishes. Present on top of the case is a uni-directional dive time bezel with a green ceramic insert that nicely complements the color of the dial. The case is water-resistant to a healthy 300 meters.
Driving this watch is an automatic movement with small seconds and a circular date window. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 38 hours. It has been hidden underneath a closed case back that has been engraved with a motif highlighting the river Hangang’s path across Korea and the limited-edition number.
The new Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition watch comes attached to a stainless-steel bracelet and is limited to just 2000 pieces worldwide. The watch would be sold in a special presentation box and would retail for CHF 2,500.
