Chopard’s Mille Miglia collection comprises racing-inspired watches which pay a tribute to the classic/vintage car race called Mille Miglia which takes place every year in Italy and which the brand has been a partner and official timekeeper of for more than 3 decades now. To celebrate this association Chopard introduces a new version of their Mille Miglia watches every year and 2019 is no different. The Chopard Mille Miglia 2019 race edition is a sporty chronograph which is packed with interesting details that commemorate the historical racing event.
The dial on this watch has been nicely executed and has been rendered in a combination of gray and black with some vibrant motorsport influenced red accents. It features a tri-compax layout with chronograph minute and hour counters at 12 and 3 along with a running seconds counter at 9. Interestingly the chronograph subdials have been presented in black (with red hands) to segregate them for the normal timekeeping functions which also helps provide a nice contrast against the light grey main dial. Further to that, all subdials have been nicely snailed, which has also been carried over to the entire dial giving the watch some added visual character. The hour markers have been applied and filled with luminous paint to enhance low light visibility and the minutes have been printed on a sloped chapter ring on the outer periphery of the dial. Finally, to complete the dial there is a magnified date window at 3 and printed on its left is the Mille Miglia road sign suggesting the approximate racing distance to be covered during the race.
The case on the Chopard Mille Miglia 2019 race edition is made out of stainless steel and has a diameter of 44mm. On top of the case is a sapphire crystal which has been securely held in place through a steel bezel which features an aluminum insert with a printed tachymeter scale. The case is water resistant to 100 meters and has a closed case back which has been deeply embossed with the Mille Miglia logo on a black PVD treated chequered pattern surrounded by some more important information such as the route of the race and the limited edition number. Underneath the case back is a self-winding chronograph movement that powers this watch. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 bph and offers a power reserve of around 2 days. The movement is also a COSC certified chronometer which would ensure that the watch keeps accurate time within -4 to +6 seconds/day.
The Chopard Mille Miglia 2019 race edition is a handsome looking sports watch which continues to showcase the brand’s love for classic car racing. The watch would come attached to a Cognac-colored perforated leather strap with a rubber lining that mimics the look of 1960’s Dunlop tire treads. Only 1000 pieces of the watch would be produced and it would retail at a price of CHF 7,170.
